With the season of gift giving supposedly behind us, we at The Motherline propose a new idea: what if the gift we give, all year long, is ourselves? What if the way we navigate the world, interact with others, and tend our common good is a present: to our community, our families, and the planet that gives us life? Would we want this gift to be beaten down, exhausted, burned out? Or do we want this gift to be vibrant, and well working? Would we want it to be a gift that ends up in the landfill, broken after just a few uses, or something to keep through multiple generations? If we view ourselves as a gift, then we should take care of ourselves.
We Motherliners think dancing together is a swell way to do that! Even if you suck at it, or are afraid of it, or believe you can’t do it, we propose the following. Since time immemorial folks have been dancing together. Dancing in community is a central tenet of sustainable, indigenous cultures. But irrespective of a bullet proof history of connecting people, we need to dance for our brains. A big slew of recent studies has proven that the single best thing we can do for our brain health is exercise. So if we want the gift of ourselves to meet its potential, then let’s cherish ourselves as such. So join in! The Planet is dancing! Are you?
