The Motherground

The Motherground is a dance short film shot locally with filmmaker Trina Morago and Choreographer Ariadne Grace, the two collaborating artists behind “The Portal Project” and “The Last Feather.” It features dancer Isadora Millay and local, homesteading moms who together create “The Motherline.” The film uses current climate precarity as a genesis for hope and opportunity in community connection and planet protection, calling upon mothers to join forces in defense of our remaining eco systems.

Spanning a year and a half and 5 locations of majestic Southern Oregon wonder, Morago and Grace filmed a wordless story, told through dance, about how to find hope in the face of climate chaos and despair.  Grace says, ”The film uses physical imagery and movement to conjure deeper feelings many harbor about the lack of control we feel ensuring our children and their children will have a habitable place to live.”  She goes on, “too many of us don’t find a safe place to process our fear and feelings of powerlessness, nor a way to transform these into actions with impact.  The Mother Way is an opportunity to remedy that.”

“The Motherground” is a film about motherhood, our great Gaia ‘One’ mother,  the wisdoms she whispers, and our capacity for rising.  Watch the trailer here, and find the full-length film at art festivals in the near future!

Cultivate Kids at the Cave Junction Farmers Market

Motherline partners with Cave Junction Farmers Market in our “Cultivate Kids” sustainable gardening program.  We teach the kids to grow food; tend herbs, flowers, and perennials; lead younger kids in enjoying the gardens during Market hours; and learn entrepreneurship skills.

The Course

This dance has become a tradition for every Motherline gathering, & everyone is encouraged to learn the choreography and participate!

The Portal Project

The Portal Project aims to bring more people consciously into the act of rejecting a return to so-called “normal”, and radically transform from a world culture based on extraction and destruction, to restoration, repair and creation. Transform with us.

MALE FANTASY

Our girls beat against the walls that contain them, so that they can be free to lead. They carry multitudes, easily flattened and discarded by a camera lens. The effects of capitalism on young women are a slow, gnawing off of dignity and self worth that emotionally damages our young women. These days, instead of girls being fed a few commercials every 20 minutes they can scroll through 200 messages in 60 seconds that all say “you are not enough”…“you suck!”…. “you need this”… “you need to BE this”. It is our responsibility as guides and generational teachers to flip the narrative for this next generation of women. Climate justice IS social justice IS inclusive justice for all.

Hostage is the third full dance film released by Dancefarm Oregon’s Portal Project.

IMAGINATION

I want to give my daughter the lake; full and clean. Crystal clear and sparkling under the sun. A want that I have no power to realize. I alone cannot protect this lake, but We The People could. So why don’t we?

Beyond: Dances and Gardens

“Beyond are Dances and Gardens. This is where capitalism dies, where racism births courage to self reflect and correct, where sexism surrenders to humanism, when classism falls to its knees at the farm table where all eat like queens, where everyone’s life is a dance that sculpts the world. Dances and Gardens are the portal to the beyond…and the beyond itself.”
