The Mother Way
On Mother’s Day 2024, we premiered our film, The Motherground, at the Southern Oregon Guild of Artists and Artisans. This year for Mother’s Day, we will share the film as it becomes available to watch online for the first time ever!
“The Motherground” is a 30 minute film about women and their connection to nature and her sons and daughters. The dance film culminates in a moving pact between the great mother and those entrusted to protect her. Shot in Southern Oregon, this visually stunning film will leave all mother hearts lifted and inspired! AND, you will be supporting The Motherline’s work protecting our planet!
For a minimum $10 donation you will receive access to stream “The Motherground” anytime over Mother’s Day weekend, in the convenience of your own home, at your own time, without the hassle of traveling. You and your family will have access to enjoy this film as many times as your hearts desire, over the Mother’s Day weekend.
And, purchasing access to the film will also give you one month FREE membership to The Motherline online, where we have our collection of Homestead Help films to view and learn from, our members-only discussion forum, and access to upcoming live events.
The Clean Sweep
This will be our fourth Second Saturday Sweep of 2026! We’re up to about 200 tons of trash collected, between 2025 and 2026 so far. We’re on the home stretch!
The next event will be Saturday, June 13, 8 am – noon (note the new earlier time, as the weather is getting warmer). We’ll be at the Deer Creek Grange again, at 3750 Lakeshore Drive, in Selma. It’s a beautiful spot, and if you live in Selma, you should come out: we’ll probably finish the Selma area in June and move to a new Hub in July!
The June event will have some bonus extras: lunch this time will be grilled pizza, by Sugar Pine Dine. I can’t wait! Plus we’ll have ice cream for all after the pizza. And the usual coffee, donuts, and snacks, all morning.
In 2025/2026, we have hosted 13 cleanup days, out in the woods, picking up so much trash. We’ve hauled off something like 400,000 pounds! Almost all of 2025 was spent on the formerly atrocious Kerby Mainline area. In 2026, we finished a few details at Kerby Mainline, and then started on the Deer Creek watershed/Selma area. Once we finish in Selma, we’ll reach across the rest of the watershed, heading south toward the Sucker Creek drainage, as well as the valleys of the east and west forks of the Illinois River. Rough & Ready, O’Brien, Waldo, Sanger Peak, Takilma (Page Mountain), and Holland. Check our Clean Sweep page for more details.
THE Halloween Carnival
We’ve hosted two annual THE Halloween Carnivals now, and it’s safe to say, this is now a community favorite! We’ll be back with the 3rd Annual, this coming October, on the Friday before Halloween.
Bring your best costume! We’ll see you there!

And meanwhile check out some photos and a video from last year, here.
Earth Day Cabaret
The 2026 Cabaret was such a celebration of the RiverStars’ hard work, and all the Earth Day activities added so much to the festivities! Find pictures and the video on our Earth Day Cabaret page, and stay tuned for information about the 2027 Cabaret next spring!
Free Tire Recycling Day
How can there even be so many tires sitting around in this valley? We collected 5,000 tires at the 3rd annual Tire Day. Add that to the previous years’ totals for 11,000 tires removed from the valley so far!
Tires contain so many toxic chemicals that can leach into our soils, groundwater, and surface water – it’s so good to get them out of here! And yes they are in fact being recycled! Our tire hauler, Monkey Tire & Disposal, takes them back to Roseburg, tears out the steel and sells it for recycling, and then crumbles up the rubber and sells it for recycling, too.
We especially loved that thanks to our “bounty” program, people brought us almost 600 tires that they had collected from our public woodlands. This is fabulous – not just that they got cleaned up out of the creeks, woods, and ravines that they were hiding in, but that is 600 fewer tires that we will not have to deal with at upcoming Clean Sweeps!
