About

The Motherline is a deeply rooted rural organization that centers culture, relationship, and creativity as drivers of long-term community wellbeing. Our work is grounded in weekly community dance practice, which serves as a consistent and accessible community-builder that bolsters trust, belonging, and intergenerational connection. From this foundation, we advance a range of interconnected, community-designed efforts—including youth arts and agriculture, intergenerational mentor webs, skills and literacy education, and the creation of community environmental pathways. Collectively, we refer to these efforts as PATH(s)—Purposeful Actions To Heal.  Through our PATHs, The Motherline empowers women to pursue local planet protection and sustainable economy through arts, agriculture, education, and community actions.

The Motherline pursues a vision of Rural ReciProsperity, believing that “all flourishing is mutual.” By supporting the voices and healing of women, we believe we can engender health for our children, families and planet. Using art as the genesis point for cultivating communication across differences and forging meaningful connection, we create and support inter-generational and youth programs that help move us toward a culture of restoration and reparation.  We envision the end of the extractive boom and bust economies that have defined our region, and the ascent of a healthy, planet protecting, local economy.

The Motherline centers around a shared dance practice to protect our planet and weave our community toward healing.  Mothers come together to move as though their children’s lives depend on it (because they do), willing to put their bodies where their mouths and hearts are.

For the purposes of this project, “Mother” is defined as any woman of any age who self identifies as a ‘mother’… one who possesses a deep need and calling to nurture a livable planet, whether through flora, fauna, or other human beings.

Every woman should have a Motherline!

“The Motherline” founding artists offer workshops to your community, bringing inspiring, inter-generational earth dance directly to you. We can come and give day long or week long workshops specifically designed for your community and your community’s needs, and/or we can teach and help you to start your own weekly ‘Motherline’ practice in your community.  Please email us at connect@themotherline.org to inquire about offering a workshop in your community.
