The Second Annual Tire Day was even more epic than the First!
On May 31, 2025, Motherline partnered with the Cave Junction Farmers’ Market, the Oregon Caves Chevron, and the Josephine County Solid Waste Agency, to bring Tire Recycling Day to our community for the second year in a row! This time we collected more than 4,000 tires (following up on the 2,000 from last fall)! These tires are now headed for recycling instead of lingering in our Illinois Valley watershed; they are no longer leaching chemicals into backyards, collecting water for mosquitoes to multiply in, or waiting to be dumped off in the woods. Those who turned out to get rid of their old tires were so enthusiastic and grateful for the opportunity to do so.
The event was very generously funded by the Josephine County Solid Waste Agency, and very enthusiastically staffed and supported by the Oregon Caves Chevron. The Farmers’ Market and the Motherline brought doughnuts and enough volunteers (including kids who were stronger than we’d have guessed!) to sling tires out of trailers, pickups, and cars, as they arrived. Overall it was a fabulous Rural ReciProsperity day: working in partnership together, to make positive change in our community!
Motherline particularly wants to thank the organizations who partnered with us to make the event such a success:
Josephine County Solid Waste Agency – for funding the project!
Oregon Caves Chevron – for the infrastructure, help with planning, and the staff who knew what they were doing and worked so hard all day!
Cave Junction Farmers’ Market – for being such an awesome non-profit organization and sponsoring and promoting this project!
Lakin and Liberty Tire – for making sure we had trailers at the event to dispose of the tires in!
All the community members who took the time to bring their tires to us, instead of letting them sit out back, or dumping them in the woods!
And all the volunteers who helped unload ALL THOSE TIRES on Tire Day!
